A Light Touch is an interactive LIVE stream show that aims to create a feeling of togetherness and connection in a collage-like blend of art, technology, and imagination. Since debuting the show at e-Volver Festival in June 2020, we continue to adapt and perform versions of it at online festivals.
Technically, the show is set up where we project volunteers live via video chat onto a large screen in our living room where we can interact and transform them using projected shadow puppetry. Our approach is improvisational and open. We set up multiple cameras in the space, with live switching between multiple perspectives so our process is visible to the online audience.
A Light Touch ‘Virtual Light Therapy: Digital-Analog Deep Tissue Massage’ debuted at e-Volver Festival presented by UpInTheAir Theatre June 18th, 23rd, & 25th, 2020.
On October 16th, 2020 we performed a bilingual version of A Light Touch “From Canada to Brazil” for FIS International Festival of Shadow Theatre in Sao Paulo Brazil. It was performed in both English and Portuguese with a live translator who was fully integrated into the show.
On July 17th 2020 we adapted A Light Touch setup to offer a “Virtual Fringe Fantasy” at the Winnipeg Fringe.
Original Show Description of A Light Touch at e-Volver Festival:
Feeling a little stir-crazy? Craving the human touch and connection you get from a therapist, hairdresser, chiropractor, surgeon, palm reader, travel agent, live theatre artist? (fill in the blank) Relax as Mind of a Snail helps manifest our desired illusions into virtual realities.
As pseudo-professional science-art-clown-healers, we have constructed a Digital-Analog Holo-Deck that customizes any longed-for travel destination, or psychedelic spa experience. Through using state of the art technology (overhead projectors combined with the internet) lucky test subjects will be beamed directly into Mind of a Snail’s avant-garde sanctuary-laboratory living-room theatre.
Audiences watching will witness a type of visual float tank that is guaranteed to be virtually safe.
Side effects may include lucid dreaming, eureka moments, fits of laughter, and acid flashbacks. By bending time together using technology, we will attune to reality via a shared moment of visual fantasy!
